Tom Sawyer Island opened to the public at Disneyland Resort in 1956.  Now known as Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer's Island, in its original form it is the only attraction designed by Walt Disney himself. Just days before construction was to begin Walt decided he was not satisfied with its original plans so he re-imagined it in his own home.
